Chamber, rec commission settle in
The Tonganoxie Recreation Commission and the Chamber of Commerce have been working out of their new residence for about three weeks.
And officials at the new site are enjoying their new digs.
"The extra space is definitely nice, and I think the location is really nice," said Ben Cramer, TRC assistant director.
The organizations formerly shared a one-room office at the corner of Fourth and Main streets. On Nov. 1, the organizations moved to U.S. Highway 24-40 just across the street from Tonganoxie Junior High School.
The building has two sides the west holds The Insurance Group, while the recreation commission and chamber are in the building's east portion.
In their previous building, the two organizations shared one large room, unlike the new location, which has two separate rooms and a basement for storage.
Cramer also said he enjoyed the location because it sits between Chieftain Park and the TRC ball fields.
Although the chamber doesn't have anyone at the site full-time, Cramer said he and TRC director Mark Zerrer field and forward phone calls for the group.
Rob Schuck, chamber president, said financial problems forced the group to be without an office manager in July 2001, but membership has been improving.
"The good news is that we are getting our feet under us again," Schuck said. "Working with the rec commission has been very beneficial."
With the improved activity, Schuck said it was possible the organization would hire someone to fill the office position again.
