Obituary: Frances Genevieve Wendorff
Services for Frances Genevieve (Wendy) Wendorff, 96, Council Grove, were Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church. Burial was in McLouth Cemetery.
Mrs. Wendorff died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Council Grove Healthcare Center. She was born Nov. 22, 1905, in McLouth, the daughter of Edgar Bailiff and Margaret Frances (McGuire) Davison Sr.
She was a graduate of McLouth High School and Lawrence Business College. She married Harry Washington Wendorff Aug. 28, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Nov. 27, 1983.
Before retiring from Leavenworth Mutual Savings and Loan in 1970, she was employed by Standard Life Insurance Co., Lawrence; Laming Insurance Co., The U.S. Post Office and Suburban Telephone Company, all of Tonganoxie.
She was a member of the Tonganoxie United Methodist Church where she volunteered as office secretary and assistant treasurer. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as a local officer and on the state executive committee of the conference board. She was a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs Civic Study Club, a 50-year member of the Tonganoxie Extension Homemakers Unit and the Rebecca Lodge No. 82, Order of the Eastern Star, Tonganoxie, and Chapter CW of PEO, Lawrence.
In 1999 she moved to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor where she lived until August 2002. While there she served on the resident's board and participated in many groups. Her volunteer work was recognized in 1995 in a front page story.
Survivors include three sisters, Helen Klinksiek, Overland Park, Audrey Gallagher, Fairfax, Va., and Maude Flaherty, Terre Haute, Ind.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Tonganoxie United Methodist Church or the Good Samaritan Fund at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, 66086.
