Obituary: Lena T. Laws

Services for Lena T. Laws, Bonner Springs, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Burial will be in the Edwardsville Cemetery in Edwardsville. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Laws, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Providence Place Nursing Home in Kansas City, Kan. She was born March 22, 1913, in Mound Valley, the daughter of Charles and Graces Gerdes. She graduated in 1931 from Labette County High School in Altamount. She married Claude Miller in 1934 and they owned and operated Bonner Oaks Grocery together from 1948 until his death in 1964. She continued to operate the grocery until 1970 and later turned it into an antique store.

Lena was a kind and generous woman who unselfishly helped those in need. She will be remembered forever as a spunky woman with a good sense of humor and a loving heart. She will be missed by her family and loved ones.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Edgar Lavern Laws of the home; a son, Claude Miller, Jr., Tonganoxie; a daughter, Rose Townsend, Shawnee; a sister, Mary Rundell, Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
