District seeking board applicants
The Tonganoxie school district is still accepting applications for a vacant board position.
The opening was created in September when Phil Weide resigned from the board.
Richard Erickson, superintendent, said the deadline is Friday, but he added that the district will continue to accept applications until the next regular board meeting on Oct. 14.
The opening is for a district patron who lives north of U.S. Highway 24-40 in the city limits.
Current board members are: Ron Moore, Darlyn Hansen, Rick Lamb, Terri Needham, Bob DeHoff and Richard Dean.
As of Friday, Erickson said, one person had applied for the position and several others had written or called, expressing an interest in applying.
Erickson described the board members with whom he has worked during his six years in Tonganoxie as "outstanding."
"They participate in a lot of the issues and they all have their area of expertise," Erickson said. "I just believe that eight heads are better than one. That's the way boards should operate so that more people have input in making the best decisions for kids."
The existing six school board members will vote on who will fill the vacancy.
Applications for the opening on the school board may be submitted to the district's central office.
