Obituary: Elton “Hoover” E. Phillips
Services for Elton "Hoover" E. Phillips, 69, Basehor, were Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Landmark Baptist Church, Bonner Springs. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Phillips died last Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at his home. He was born July 21, 1933, in Gentry County, Missouri.
He married Betty Joe Pickering on Sept. 2, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo. After graduating from Seminary College in Little Rock, Ark., he helped start Selinsky Baptist Church in 1964 in Houston.
In 1968, he returned to this area and went into the restaurant business. With his family, he owned and operated Victory Junction restaurant in western Kansas City, Kan., until he retired in 1997. He continued his involvement with the restaurant after his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four children, Vicki Lynn Boone, Tonganoxie, Earl Dean Phillips, Cantwell, Alaska, Nancy Audean Phillips, Basehor, and Rita Marie Williams, Tonganoxie; two brothers, Sam Phillips and Elwood Phillips; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, with a great-granddaughter on the way.
Two grandchildren, Glen Phillips and Rachel Marie Wyatt, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Landmark Baptist Church, 12850 Kansas Ave., Bonner Springs, 66012.
