Basehor-Linwood patrons vote down bond issue

January 22, 2003

Basehor-Linwood school district patrons on Tuesday rejected a $29.9 million bond issue.

According to the Leavenworth County clerk's office, 997 district patrons voted agains the bond issue, while 695 voted for approval.

Had voters OK'd the issuance of bonds, proceeds would have been used for renovations at Linwood, Glenwood and Basehor elementaries and the construction of a new middle school on 79 acres of land on County Road 2.

Under an approved bond issue, the owner of a $100,000 home would have paid an additional $172.16 in taxes a year.

A mill is $1 in taxes for every $1,000 of assessed property valuation.
