Obituary: John M. McWilliams
Services for John M. McWilliams, 80, Tonganoxie, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. McWilliams died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was born March 3, 1923, in Kansas City, Kan., where he was a lifelong resident.
He graduated in 1941 from Bishop Ward High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from the Kansas City, Kan., board of education, after serving 21 years. Mac's Park at 18th and Parallel in Kansas City, Kan., was named in his honor. He was a member of the Top O' the Mornin' Club.
His wife, Marjorie, died on April 19, 2001.
Survivors include three sons, John M. McWilliams III, Bucyrus, Patrick McWilliams, Edwardsville; and Greg McWilliams, Tonganoxie; two daughters, Jill Jennings and Kelley Gilbert, both of Garden City, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Joseph A. Butler and Son Funeral Home, 19th and Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kan., where a rosary will be said at 4 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Church Building Fund, 703 E. River, Box 539, Tonganoxie, 66086.
