Planners deny rezoning request
A development north of Tonganoxie geared toward empty nesters was turned down by the Tonganoxie Planning Commission last week.
By a 4-3 vote, the commission declined Greg Ward's rezoning request for The Villas at Timber Hill Farms.
Roughly 60 residents living in proximity to the proposed 27-acre development at Smiley and Hatchell roads spoke against the development, which also would have included a 5-acre fishing lake that already exists on the property, along with a community center and tennis courts. Ward's plan called for duplex-like villas.
The measure now will go before the city council for final action.
