Obituary: Samuel Kelsall III
Services for Samuel Kelsall III, Houston, were Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Reno Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Dr. Kelsall, 92, died March 3, 2003, at Hermann Hospital, Houston. He was born July 24, 1910, in Reno.
He married Edith Gwendolyn Gosney in 1935 in Goddard. She died Dec. 12, 1991.
Dr. Kelsall graduated from Kansas State University in 1935. He served in the 34th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945. He was division veterinarian.
He participated in the invasion of Anzio Beach in Italy. Before the war, Dr. Kelsall had tested cattle for tuberculosis in Oklahoma and California. After the war, he became a federal meat inspector, first in Omaha, then in Memphis. He moved to Houston in 1958 where he was inspector in charge of federal meat inspection.
He was a philanthropist and established a scholarship fund for public health veterinary students at Kansas State University.
Survivors include three sons, Samuel Kelsall IV, and Richard Kelsall, both of Phoenix, and Shawn Kelsall, Houston; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
