High school graduation ceremonies scheduled
Proud parents, friends and other relatives will gather this week for high school graduation ceremonies in area communities.
At Tonganoxie High School, 118 seniors are expected to participate in commencement ceremonies, which will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Beatty Field. If inclement weather rolls into Tonganoxie, graduation exercises will be moved to the high school gym.
During the ceremonies at THS, the valedictorian of the Class of 2003 will speak. That person will be chosen based on grade-point average and ACT scores, according to counselor Brent Smith. In addition, the salutatorian -- or salutatorians -- will be recognized, Smith said. And scholarship winners will be announced.
At McLouth High School, graduation ceremonies also are set for Saturday. At the 4 p.m. event in the high school's Gold Gym, 33 graduates are expected to participate, according to middle school secretary Dee Gill. The schools valedictorians and salutatorians will speak, and scholarship winners will be announced.
Basehor-Linwood High School's commencement ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the school gymnasium. Valedictorian Sara Hashman will address the gathering. A total of 117 high school students and five virtual charter school students are expected to graduate. And scholarship winners will be announced.
