Students working on ‘Guys and Dolls’
The question isn't who's singing in the upcoming THS production of "Guys and Dolls."
According to director Steve Harrell, the question is: "Who isn't singing?"
The musical, which will be performed Nov. 13, 14 and 15, includes songs sung by Heather Melchior, Kaitie Pestock, Jake McGhee, Michael Stephenson, Lindsay Davidson and Joel Nido, Harrell said.
And, because it has a cast of 30, many more students will be on the stage.
The well-known Broadway musical takes place on Broadway, Harrell said.
"There's a Salvation Army mission that's trying to save the souls of the gamblers," Harrell said. "The head of the mission falls in love with one of the big-time gamblers."
Popular songs include "Luck Be A Lady Tonight," and "A Bushel And A Peck."
Four faculty members are combining their talents to make the play a success.
Harrell, along with Chris Delay, are co-directors. Delay is overseeing the technical work, which includes everything from costumes to lighting, sound and scenery. THS vocal music instructor Joyce Steeby is working with the singers. And THS band director Charles Van Middlesworth is directing the orchestra.
Harrell said the musicals typically don't draw sell out crowds.
"But we'd sure like to have some," he added.
Because in recent years the junior high has also been holding its own musical productions, students come to high school with stage experience, Harrell said.
"I think we've really started turning the corner to getting good," Harrell said.
