Tonganoxie volleyball charging in league race against Lansing

By Shawn Linenberger - | Oct 8, 2003

Tonganoxie’s volleyball league title hopes are on the line. The Chieftains played Tuesday in Shawnee against Mill Valley and Lansing.

Before the match, the teams were tied for first in the KVL with perfect 6-0 records. Lansing also was the top-ranked team in the state with a 23-0 overall record, while Tonganoxie stood unranked at 12-3.

“In all actuality, tonight has the makings to make the league champion,” THS assistant coach Brandon Parker said Tuesday.

Results from those matches can be found in next week’s addition of The Mirror.

Tonganoxie last played Sept. 30 when the Chieftains defeated Basehor-Linwood (25-16, 25-20) and Immaculata (25-20, 26-24) in Basehor.

“We were a little flat,” Parker said. “I think we were still a little flat from the big weekend.”

Parker was referring to the Tonganoxie Invitational Sept. 27 when the Chieftains took second in that tournament against Class 6A and 5A schools. THS next will be in action Saturday at the De Soto Spikefest. Matches begin at 8 a.m.
