Basketball teams ready for schedules to resume

December 29, 2004

Tonganoxie students will resume classes Tuesday.

THS basketball teams also will resume their seasons on that day.

The boys and girls will welcome arch-rival Lansing to town. The girls game will tip-off at 6 p.m., while the boys will start at 7:30 p.m.

The Chieftain girls come back from break at 3-2 after defeating Bonner Springs, 52-30 on Dec. 17 in Tonganoxie. THS snapped a two-game losing streak with the win against the Braves.

On the boys side, Tonganoxie enters the Lansing game with a 2-3 record after falling to Bonner Springs, 57-45.

Both teams will continue the season Jan. 7 with road games at Mill Valley. The teams then will play Immaculata -- the boys at home and the girls on the road -- on Jan. 11. League play continues Jan. 14 with home games against Basehor-Linwood.

That brings the Chieftains to their own Tonganoxie Invitational Jan. 17-22.

For only the second year in its existence, the event will feature both boys and girls tourneys. Before last season's tournaments, only a boys invitational took place.

Schools bringing boys and girls squads are Atchison, Jeff West, Immaculata, Lansing, Pleasant Ridge and Silver Lake. The Eudora boys will compete, as will the Metro Academy girls.

Both Bulldog squads will come back from the winter break searching for their first victories of the season.

Each team is 0-4 on the season as they resume the year against Oskaloosa on Tuesday at home. The teams then will host Horton on Jan. 7 and Lawrence Seabury on Jan. 11 before traveling to Valley Falls on Jan. 14.

The boys then will play in the McLouth Invitational Tournament Jan. 18-22.

The girls, meanwhile, will play at Mount Academy on Jan. 18 in Atchison. The following week, the girls will play in the Jefferson County North Tournament. And Jan. 28, the boys will travel to St. Mary's Academy.
