The Mirror helping local music students raise funds

By Staff | Feb 18, 2004

It’s that time of year again.

For a fifth consecutive year, The Mirror newspaper is working with Tonganoxie music students to help the young musicians raise money for upcoming trips.

Since 2000, The Mirror has donated a portion of subscriptions sold to band and choir students. The fund-raiser kicks off on Monday and runs through March 17.

The project helps vocal and instrumental music students at both the junior high and high school.

“In March, vocal music students will take a trip to Chicago during spring break,” said Caroline Trowbridge, editor and publisher of The Mirror. “That will be a really exciting experience for them. In past years, we’ve been able to help students finance trips to the Cotton Bowl and the Liberty Bowl.”

The Mirror will donate to students $10 from each new subscription that students sell and $5 for each renewal they sell. A 52-week subscription to The Mirror costs $30 in Leavenworth, Jefferson, Douglas, Wyandotte and Johnson counties; $45 a year elsewhere in Kansas; and $50 a year outside of Kansas.

“These kids work hard, and it’s important they be able to take trips to showcase their talents,” Trowbridge said.
