T-Bones fans make return trips to park

By Shawn Linenberger - | Jun 23, 2004

The T-Bones seem to be satisfying the appetites of their fans in year No. 2.

The Kansas City, Kan., team again is providing heaping servings of semi-pro baseball with side dishes of theme nights, promotional games and between-inning entertainment.

All those ingredients have helped keep the franchise going as a main course in the Village West business center.

Attendance at CommunityAmerica Ballpark is averaging about 4,200 per night, according to Loren Foxx, director of media relations.

Foxx credits last year’s inaugural season as a driving force with enthusiasm this summer.

“It seems like things have carried over pretty well,” Foxx said. “People had a great time last year.

“People have told their friends about it and things have picked up in that respect.”

And promotional events haven’t hurt attendance.

Pete Rose made an appearance last month and most games include some discount or event.

Mondays are baseball card nights, Tuesdays are dollar hot dog nights and Wednesdays are family nights. On Fridays, youngsters can run the bases and Saturdays are fireworks nights.

As for theme nights, the ballpark already had mullet night earlier this month, one of many themes they’ve continued from last year.

“It was pretty entertaining,” Foxx said.

CommunityAmerica Ballpark seats 4,365, but more room is available on grass hills beyond the outfield wall and down the left-field line.

And new this season, a hot tub and sunroom sit just beyond the right-center field fence.

“There’s a lot of different things that have been added from last year, that’s for sure,” Foxx said.
