By Shawn Linenberger - | May 5, 2004

New team, new name.

Tonganoxie dance team coach Jenna Delay recently announced who would be on her 14-member roster for the next school year.

And, the group also decided it now would be known as the Chieftain Stars.

Delay said the group has been practicing four hours each week since next year’s team was chosen April 2.

Team members for the 2004-05 team will be senior Lindsey Starcher (co-captain), juniors Jenna Bradley (co-captain), Melisa Aquirre, Staci Andrews, Rachel Bouza, Elizabeth Higbee, Amanda Lenon, Paula Prosser (junior lieutenant) and Lacey Sturgis. Sophomores-to-be are Brittany Harbour, Holly Heintzelman, Crystal Jordan, Brittney Pendleton and Amie Riddle (sophomore lieutenant).

The Stars are practicing for the all-American Dance/Drill Team Camp on June 7-10 at Emporia State University. At the camp, squad members have an opportunity to earn individual ribbons during clinics. If they earn a red ribbon for excellence in dance, they can audition for the all-American Dance Team and earn the opportunity to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Stars also have the opportunity to win awards ranging from excellence in dance to team work.

The THS team will be evaluated on one of its own routines, along with two the Stars will learn during the four-day camp.

Team members can be seen Saturday and May 15 washing cars at Sonic Drive-In, 550 Northstar Ct., in Tonganoxie. The group also will be car hopping at the event to earn money toward buying team bags and warm-ups.

The car washes will take place both days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
