Warrior girls even record at 3-3
The Warriors are sitting at .500 after a victory and a loss last week.
The Tonganoxie Junior High eighth grade girls basketball team defeated Xavier, 42-19, but fell to Basehor-Linwood, 36-30. The TJHS A-team now is 3-3 on the season.
The Warriors started the game slowly against Xavier. Tonganoxie was behind by as many as six before closing the gap to one at halftime, 13-12. Jamie Hicks led the Warriors in rebounding with six, followed by Rachel Krivjanski, Emily Gripka and Kaitlyn Kerbaugh.
Chrissy Jeannin, Lauren Himpel and Megan Puhr led the team in steals. Scoring for Tonganoxie were Hicks with 19, Jeannin had 11, Puhr 5, Himpel, Krivjanski and Tayler McKean each with 2 and Gripka with 1.
"Against Xavier, the girls learned what it means to be mentally ready for a game," TJHS coach John Korb said. "The second half they were focused and played great defensive team ball. I was proud of the way the girls battled against Basehor-Linwood.
"Even though we went through a huge scoring slump the third quarter they kept battling back. In many ways it was the best game we have played this year."
The TJHS B-team lost to Clark, 21-11, and Basehor-Linwood, 16-2. The B-team's season record now is 2-5.
