Tonganoxie again will host regional

By Shawn Linenberger - | Oct 6, 2004

Tonganoxie again will be the site for a Class 4A cross country regional.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association last week made Tonganoxie one of four sites for 4A cross country.

Buhler, El Dorado and Hiawatha are the other three regional sites in 4A.

Teams at Tonganoxie with the Chieftains are Baldwin, Basehor-Linwood, Bonner Springs, De Soto, Eudora, Fort Scott, Anderson County, Bishop Ward, Piper, Kansas City Sumner, Prairie View, Louisburg, Osawatomie and Spring Hill.

The girls race will begin at 2 p.m. and the boys race at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

Although five of the 10 Kaw Valley League schools will be at the Tonganoxie regional (THS, Basehor-Linwood, Bonner Springs, Bishop Ward and Piper), other KVL teams will be in regionals at other venues. Santa Fe Trail and Perry-Lecompton will be a Hiawatha in another 4A regional, while Lansing and Mill Valley will be at Shawnee Mission Park with Shawnee Mission Northwest as the host.

Immaculata, which is competing in Class 2A, will compete at Washington.

McLouth likely would have been at that regional as well, but the Bulldogs jumped up to 3A this year and will run at the Leonardville Golf Course. Riley County High School will be the host for that regional.

Other Delaware Valley League teams at the Riley County regional are Pleasant Ridge, Horton and Oskaloosa.

At the Mound City-Jayhawk Linn regional, Kansas City Christian will be looking for another team state berth as the only DVL representative there.

The remaining DVL squads — Doniphan West, Jackson Heights, Troy, Valley Falls, Wathena and Jefferson County North will join Immaculata at Washington.
