? The Tonganoxie junior high and high school marching bands made their way to Baldwin City early Saturday morning to march in the annual Maple Leaf Festival parade.

Decked in their uniforms — the high school band in red and white traditional band uniforms and the junior high band in matching red shirts and black slacks — the band members were ready to go.

Before the parade began, the bands lined up near the football stadium, where they tuned their instruments and adjusted their uniforms. Nancy Henre, the mother of a band member, worked her way through the high school band, looking for torn hems she could mend.

Soon, the fire engines at the head of the parade took off, and gradually, the bands, from schools throughout the area, pulled into the parade as well. The Tonganoxie bands, both directed by Charles VanMiddlesworth, marched and played with precision.

Homecoming 2004

Friday’s Tonganoxie High School homecoming parade gave students, faculty and the community a chance to celebrate.

The annual parade began at the high school and made its way to downtown, stopping at the corner of Fourth and Bury for a pep rally.

Leading the parade were members of the Tonganoxie Junior High School band. School dance groups provided entertainment and senior members of fall sports were honored.

Then the Tonganoxie High School band continued with the parade, followed by a half dozen floats. The parade passed by Tonganoxie Elementary School where students cheered and waved posters.
