Tonganoxie bands march in Maple Leaf Festival parade

By Staff | Oct 20, 2004

The Tonganoxie junior high and high school marching bands made their way to Baldwin City early Saturday morning to march in the annual Maple Leaf Festival parade.

Decked in their uniforms — the high school band in red and white traditional band uniforms and the junior high band in matching red shirts and black slacks — the band members were ready to go.

Before the parade began, the bands lined up near the football stadium, where they tuned their instruments and adjusted their uniforms. Nancy Henre, the mother of a band member, worked her way through the high school band, looking for torn hems she could mend.

Soon, the fire engines at the head of the parade took off, and gradually, the bands, from schools throughout the area, pulled into the parade as well. The Tonganoxie bands, both directed by Charles VanMiddlesworth, marched and played with precision.
