Photo gallery: Children find treasures at Digger Dan’s Equipment Rodeo

By Staff | Oct 28, 2004

Saturday afternoon Tonganoxie Recreation Commission, Meadows Construction and members of Tonganoxie VFW Post 9279 joined together to provide an afternoon of entertainment for children.

Digger Dans Equipment Rodeo proved to be educational as well, as children learned about heavy equipment. Area children were invited to the free event, which featured a parade of heavy machinery and a little bit of mystery.

Larry Meadows, owner of Meadows Construction and commander of the VFW post, organized a search for a pot of gold which had been buried in the fairground’s rodeo arena. Using his heavy equipment, and also equipment owned by Kelly Bingham, Meadows lead the search and wound up triumphant — holding a pot of “gold” for the children to see.

The gold, chocolate coins wrapped in gold colored tin foil, was a hit with the 75 children who attended. And, the yellow “hard hats” and earplugs, were popular, as well.
