Obituary: Josephine V. Brown

Services for Josephine V. Brown, 98, Leavenworth, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee, Leavenworth. Burial will be in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth.

Mrs. Brown died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Tonganoxie Nursing Home, where she had lived since 2001. She was born Dec. 6, 1905, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Jarowitz) Messinger.

At age 19, Mrs. Brown became a Harvey Girl with the Fred Harvey system in Arizona, where she worked as a counter waitress at Ashfork and Seligman. She was president of the Leavenworth Golden Age Club for 10 years. She worked at the Leavenworth County Home and the Veteran Administration at Wadsworth, Kan., in the diabetic service until she retired in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth C. Brown, Leavenworth, a daughter, Vivian L. Butera, Auburn, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Davis Brown, died in 1969, and a 2-year-old son, Robert E. Price, died in 1929.

Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Tonganoxie Christian Church.
