Local tire shop attracts new owner

Last Friday morning Matt Dohrn handled a continuous stream of customers.

Dohrn is the new owner of Tire Trax, formerly known as Forshee Tire and Lube. The business is at 308 Ridge, just south of Mo’s Pizza.

Dohrn, who also owns the Tire Shop in McLouth, is engaged to Leslie Starcher, who is from Tonganoxie. Leslie is a gemologist who works at Tiffany’s on the Plaza in Kansas City, Mo.

Dohrn is a lifelong McLouth resident, but said he and Leslie plan to live in Tonganoxie.

His Tonganoxie business differs from that in McLouth, where he works on a lot of farm equipment.

“But down here, I don’t know if it’s because of the new subdivisions or what, but we have a lot of nails in tires,” Dohrn said. “It keeps us busy.”

And Dohrn said, whether it’s fixing flats, selling tires or changing oil, business is good. He bought the business on July 1.

“We haven’t had a slow moment yet,” he added.

Dohrn said he didn’t start out planning to buy the business.

He was helping out at Forshee’s one day and someone jokingly told him he should buy the business.

“They shot me a price,” Dohrn said. “It was a pretty good price. I looked into the financing and I was able to get financed.”

Services offered at Tire Trax includes the sale of new and used tires, oil changes, brake repair, belt installation, the sale of after market wheels and the installation of fifth-wheel hitch drop and locks.

And in the next year or so, Dohrn said he’s hoping to add wheel alignment services as well as auto detailing and window tinting.
