Valley Falls overpowers MHS girls at DVL

By Shawn Linenberger - | Dec 14, 2005

Valley Falls prevented the McLouth High girls basketball team from climbing to .500 before the winter break.

The Dragons defeated the Bulldogs, 42-20, on Friday in a consolation game at the Delaware Valley League Tournament.

McLouth stayed with Valley Falls in the first half. VFHS led by just three after the first quarter, 11-8, and by six, 20-14, at intermission. The third quarter, however, is what doomed McLouth. The Bulldogs were outscored 13-3 as the Dragons went on to win. The loss dropped McLouth to 1-3 on the season.

McLouth was 6-for-9 from the free-throw line, while Valley Falls went 4-for-11. Heaven Mills was McLouth’s top scorer. She had eight points on the day.

The Bulldogs did pick up a win in the DVL Tournament with a 31-20 victory against Jackson Heights on Dec. 6.

McLouth’s next basketball game will be after winter break. The Bulldogs will play Jan. 3 at Oskaloosa.

The team will be on the road again Jan. 6 at Horton and Jan. 13 at Bishop Seabury in Lawrence. McLouth won’t play at home again until Jan. 13 against Valley Falls.
