Report complete on fatal accident

By Joshua Roberts - | Feb 16, 2005

The Kansas Highway Patrol has completed its investigation into a December traffic accident that claimed the life of a Basehor firefighter, but a patrol official said he could not reveal what the report says.

Trooper Kris Keberlein, who specializes in reconstructing accident scenes for the highway patrol, said he has completed work on the accident north of Basehor that killed 19-year-old Jared Moore, a volunteer with Fairmount Township Fire Department.

His investigation’s findings have to be evaluated by a separate reconstruction specialist, as well as the highway patrol’s chain of command, before it can be forwarded to the Leavenworth County District attorney’s office for review to determine if any charges are warranted.

On Dec. 29, Moore was driving north on 155th Street in Basehor to the scene of a late-night injury accident. When turning left onto Donahoo Road, Moore’s vehicle was hit by a Leavenworth County sheriff’s patrol car, driven by Deputy Robert L. Peterman.

Until recently, Peterman had been on worker’s compensation and administrative leave. He returned to light duty Friday, said Sheriff Dave Zoellner. Peterman is not back on patrol, Zoellner said.
