Students from area work on University Daily Kansan staff

Several students from the Tonganoxie area worked during the fall 2004 semester on the University Daily Kansan news staff at Kansas University.

Among its recognitions, the Kansan received one of 25 national 2004 Pacemaker Awards given by the Associated Collegiate Press to top collegiate student newspapers.

In addition, the Kansan received "Best in Show" for its Oct. 7, 2004, edition.

Area students who worked last fall for the Kansan were Marissa A. Stephenson, Tonganoxie senior, daughter of R.J. and Karen Stephenson, copy editor and Jayplay editor; Steven L. Bartkoski, Basehor senior, son of John and DeAnn Bartkoski, photographer; Kimberly Elaine Garrison, Lansing freshman, daughter of Terri and Jerry Garrision, editors' assistant; Max Allen, Leavenworth sophomore, son of Bart and Kelley Kreutzer, cartoonist; and Neil C. Mulka, Leavenworth senior, son of Michael and Rachel Briney, copy editor, on-call designer and associate editor.
