KC area magazine recognizes two area health-care workers

By Staff | Feb 23, 2005

A volunteer at Providence Medical Center and a nurse at St. John Hospital will be honored next month by Ingram’s magazine, a Kansas City business publication.

Sister Ann Marita Loosen, who volunteers at the Kansas City, Kan., medical center, and nurse Linda Seba, who is interim clinical supervisor at St. John Senior Behavioral Health Center in Leavenworth, will be honored March 29.

Sister Ann Marita is the former president/CEO of three Kansas hospitals of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System.

Sister Ann Marita will receive a Lifetime Service Award from Ingram’s. She also will be recognized in the February “Heroes in Healthcare” edition of the magazine. William M. Murray, Health System president, nominated Sister Ann Marita for the recognition.

Following her first “retirement,” Sister Ann Marita served as advocacy and government relations coordinator for SCLHS.

In her second “retirement,” Sister Ann Marita volunteers at Providence where she had been CEO.

For the second time in three months, Seba has been rewarded for her service to her patients and community.

In October, Seba won the prestigious Heart of Healthcare award sponsored by the University of Kansas School of Nursing. And now, she’s won Ingram’s “Hero in Healthcare Award” for Registered Nurses.

Although Seba is temporarily assisting staff in the Senior Behavioral Health Center, she has been a St. John Emergency Department nurse since 1988.

Throughout the years, she has seen an increased number of sexual assault victims come to the emergency department and felt there should be a safe haven for them in Leavenworth. With her determination, vision and compassion, she helped establish the Leavenworth Alliance Sexual Assault Center in 2003.

In addition to her Senior Behavioral Health Center duties, Seba teaches the hospital’s basic life support program.

She also works as the nurse coordinator for the Leavenworth Alliance Sexual Assault Center.

The Center currently assists nearly 35 sexual assault victims annually.
