Obituary: John Robert Simanowitz
Services for John Robert Simanowitz, 56, Leavenworth will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 900 Ida, Lansing, with the Rev. Mike Stubbs officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Simanowitz died Sunday, June 5, 2005. He was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Leavenworth, the son of Anton M. and Maxine H. (Martin) Simanowitz.
He was a jet engine mechanic at TWA and then American Airlines, taking early retirement after 36 years to pursue his hobbies of woodworking and gardening.
Mr. Simanowitz was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving in various positions, including faithful navigator of the fourth degree Knights of Leavenworth and also as grand knight of the Lansing council. He was active in his church, where he sang in the choir and participated in social and fund-raising events.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of the home; two sons, David Scott Simanowitz, Colorado Springs, and John Robert Simanowitz, St. Louis, Mo.; five brothers, Mark Simanowitz, Tony Simanowitz, George Kane, Ronnie Kane and Steven Simanowitz; a sister, Diana Jacobson; and two granddaughters. Two half-sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, June 8, 2005, at Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, 707 S. Sixth, Leavenworth, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), sent in care of the funeral home.
