Pistora’s throw ranks as one of top in nation
Ali Pistora isn't just the top Kansas javelin thrower heading into the state meet Friday in Wichita.
She's also has one of the best marks in the nation.
Pistora's throw of 145 feet, 1 inch broke her own school record. The throw, which came at regionals Friday in Tonganoxie, is the best mark of any regional competitor across the state.
According to www.dyestat.com, Rachel Yurkovich of Newberg, Ore., has the top high school mark in the nation at 176-5. Although Pistora is not listed, she could be in the top 10. The top eight spots are listed and the eighth spot has a distance of 149-4.
Pistora has assembled a solid winning streak the last few weeks. She won the Shawnee Mission North Relays, the Kaw Valley League meet and regionals.
She will go for another gold at 4:30 p.m. Friday near Cessna Stadium in Wichita. Last year as a freshman, Pistora placed fourth at state with a 129-4 mark.
