Silver Lake robs MHS of state berth

McLouth faced tradition-rich Silver Lake for the third time this season when the teams battled in the finals of a Class 3A regional at Pleasant Ridge.

Silver Lake has plenty of state appearances to its credit heading into the match-up.

McLouth nearly had its first state berth when the game finished Thursday.

The teams went scoreless through seven innings before Silver Lake scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

McLouth pitcher Sam Farris threw a gem, lasting all eight innings with 10 strikeouts and two walks. She only gave up one hit in the process.

Offensively, McLouth knocked out four hits, but couldn’t muster any runs. The Bulldogs also struck out 10 times. Farris had two of McLouth’s four hits.

Defensively, McLouth committed four errors. Silver Lake had no errors.

McLouth finished the season at 16-6, continuing the Bulldogs long string of winning seasons.

Leigh Anna Thompson threw a shutout in the semifinal game against Pleasant Ridge.

McLouth started rolling early with a four-run first inning. The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth for a 6-0 victory. The Rams committed eight errors in the game, while the Bulldogs committed four.

Despite having six runs, McLouth had just three hits — Stephanie Thompson, Emily Nitzsche and Ashley Alloway all had hits for McLouth.

Leigh Anna Thompson threw a one-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work.
