TJHS girls basketball goes 1-2 last week
The Tonganoxie Junior High eighth-grade girls basketball team had a tough week as the Warriors won one game and lost two.
TJHS opened the week with a convincing 36-13 win against Patton.
The Warriors lost a nail-biter to Perry, 26-25, and came up short against Piper, 35-24.
Tonganoxie came out strong against Patton and never relinquished its aggressive defense. Andie Jeannin led the team in rebounds with seven, followed by Madie Yates with five. Shelby Heskett led the team in steals with four. Assist numbers reflected the team's unselfish play. The Warriors had 15 assists against Patton as Abbie Eisman led the team with four, while Ali George and Jeannin each had three. Scoring for the Warriors were: Yates 11, Lauren Hall 9, Hillary Saathoff 4, Jeannin 4, Angela Jacobs 2, Jessica Stinson 2, George 2 and Heskett 2.
Perry's defensive pressure caused 28 Warrior turnovers and was too much for the home team to overcome. Yates and Jeannin again led the team in rebounding. Hall led the team in steals with three.
Scoring against Perry were: Yates 10, Jeannin 4, Heskett 4, Jacobs 3, Eisman 2 and Hall 2.
Against Piper, the visiting Warriors were in a hole early. They battled back in the second quarter to take a one-point lead at the break. But the second half saw the Warrior offense go cold. Yates and Heskett led the team in rebounding. Jeannin and Eisman led the team in assists with three each.
Scoring for TJHS were: Yates 11, Eisman 5, Heskett 5, Jeannin 2 and Hall 1.
The B-team also had a tough week, losing to Perry, 27-17, and Piper, 22-17. Scoring against Perry were: George 4, Jacobs 3, Jessica White 3, Danielle Henderson 2, Mariah Bagby 2, Saathoff 2 and Hall 1.
Scoring against Piper were: Jacobs 5, Carissa Nott 4, Henderson 4, Bagby 2 and Saathoff 2.
