THS musicians fare well at two festivals

Tonganoxie High School vocal music and band students received high ratings March 4 when they performed at the Kaw Valley League Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival. The competition was at the University of St. Mary campus in Leavenworth.
Joyce Steeby is the school's vocal music instructor. Charles VanMiddlesworth directs the band.
The student ratings are as follows:

Vocal solos
I ratings
Victoria Fort, Melissa Hamby, Danielle Hopkins, Eli Jones and Sarah Larson.
II ratings
Rebecca Boelling, Jonathan Ferris, Tabitha Flaherty, Amber Hornback, Katy Kolman, Kayla Oelschlaeger, Paula Prosser, Rebekah Smith, Lydia Thao and Bailey Wetta.
III rating
Kirsten Baggett

Vocal ensemble
I rating
Chieftain Singers, "Regina coeli" and Chieftain Singers, "Daemon irrepit callidus."
Members of the Chieftain Singers are, Kirsten Baggett, Timothy Beeman, Rebecca Boelling, Nick Dietrich, Jonathan Ferris, Victoria Fort, Melissa Hamby, Eli Jones, Katy Kolman, Sarah Larson, Justin Moss, Kayla Oelschlaeger, Paula Prosser, Austin Ramirez, Leighton Simpson, Lydia Thao and Bailey Wetta.

Instrumental Solos

Kezia Huseman and Rex Hancock.
II Ratings
Patrick Monahan, Megan Holton, Henry Johnson and Nick Dietrich.
III Ratings
Noah Fugate and Ryan Wolfe.

Ensemble Ratings
I Rating
Woodwind trio: Patrick Monahan, Crystal Sheaffer and Chelsea Miller.
II Rating
Brass Quartet: Kezia Huseman, Megan Holton, Jake Bontrager and Lindsey Gonser.

And at last Saturday's Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival, held in Baldwin, six Tonganoxie High School singers and the Chieftain Singers, as well as four band students and a woodwind trio, earned top ratings.
These Tonganoxie students will complete at the state festival, set for April 29 in Andover.

Vocalists
Receiving I ratings for their solos were Tabitha Flaherty, Victoria Fort, Danielle Hopkins, Eli Jones, Paula Prosser and Bailey Wetta.

Earning II ratings for solos were Kirsten Baggett, Rebecca Boelling, Jonathan Ferris, Melissa Hamby, Amber Hornback, Katy Kolman, Sarah Larson and Kayla Oelschlaeger.
Receiving III ratings were Rebekah Smith and Lydia Thao.

The Chieftain Singers also receiving a I rating, which qualified the choir members to compete at the state festival. The choir sang "Regina coeli" and "If Music Be the Food of Love."

The THS Concert Choir received a II rating for its performance of "O Sing With Joyful Pleasure."
Members of the Concert Choir are: Gabriela Barboza, Seth Bohanon, Nichole Cox, Tabitha Flaherty, Jacob Gossett, Corissa Hall, Sophie Herzog, Valerie Hoffsett, Danielle Hopkins, Amber Hornback, Jake Hullinger, Jacque Jones, Traci Papa, Krisi Skaggs, Rebekah Smith, Cricket Wells and Alex White.

Instrumental
Receiving I ratings for their solos were Nick Dietrich,
Kezia Huseman, Henry Johnson and Patrick Monahan.
These students earned II ratings: Ryan Wolfe, Cody Somers, Noah Fugate, Megan Holton and Rex Hancock.
The high school's woodwind trio of Patrick Monahan, Chelsea Miller and Crystal Sheaffer received a I rating.
And a II rating went to the brass quartet, made up of Kezia Huseman, Megan Holton, Jake Bontrager and Lindsey Gonser.
