TJHS competes in two meets

The Tonganoxie Junior High eighth-grade boys track team placed second April 10 at the Perry Relays.

The Warriors scored 103 points, just behind Northern Hills, which scored 108 for first place. Jeff West finished third with 101, Lansing fourth with 58, Perry-Lecompton fifth with 56 and Royal Valley sixth with 1.

TJHS had four first-place finishes at the meet — the 4×200 relay, the 4×400 relay, Jerad Knipp and Stephen Wilson.

The 4×200 team of Jerad Knipp, Dylan Howe, Bret Koch and Jeremie Maus finished in 1 minute, 49 seconds.

The 4×400 team of Devan Howe, Austen Holloway, Jeremie Maus and Bret Koch finished in 4:13. Knipp placed first in the long jump with a 15-6 leap, while Stephen Wilson won the discus with a 99-8 1/2 throw.

In seventh-grade action, TJHS placed fifth out of six teams.

Lansing won the meet with 110 points, with Northern Hills second with 91. Jeff West took third (71) and Perry-Lecompton nabbed fourth (52). Tonganoxie scored 44, while Royal Valley placed sixth with 5.

The Warriors had one gold medalist on the seventh-grade side. Ian McClellan won the long jump with a 15-1 mark. He also placed third in the high jump with a 4-6 height.

Lansing triangular

The eighth-grade boys also placed third Thursday at the Lansing triangular, but nearly took first. Lansing won the meet with 51 points, just ahead of Tonganoxie, which scored 50. Perry-Lecompton scored 39.

Bret Koch won the 75 hurdles with a 12.49 time, while the 4×100 team of Austen Holloway, Jeremie Maus, D.J. Lindsay and Bret Koch also took gold with a 51.56 time. In fact, the 4×200 and 4×400 teams also won first place. The 4×200 team of Jerad Knipp, Devan Howe, Jeremy Elliott and Jason Espeland finished in 1:51. The 4×400 team of Jason Espeland, Austen Holloway, Keaton Schaffer and Jeremie Maus won its race with a 4:22 time.

Jerad Knipp again won the long jump, this time with a 17-3 leap.

And in the discus, Jeremie Maus had the top distance with a 104-0 throw.

In seventh-grade competition, Tonganoxie placed third with 20 in the team scores. Lansing won with 76, while Perry-Lecompton scored 37.

Ian McClellan again won the lone gold medal. He leaped 15-11 in the long jump. He also placed second in the 200 (28.84).
