Obituary: William Henry McClain

Services for William Henry McClain, 59, Leavenworth, were Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leavenworth. Graveside services, with Chaplain Gary “Sam” Sanford officiating, and burial with full military honors, were in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. McClain died at his home on Feb. 14, 2006. He was born Nov. 1, 1946, in Independence, Mo., the son of Claude and Bernice (Roberts) McClain.

Mr. McClain retired from the U.S. Army in 1985, at the rank of sergeant first class. His last assignment was at the Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. He served two tours in Vietnam and received numerous citations. Later, he worked for Lansing Correctional Facility as a counselor and retired in 1998. He then worked for the CCA and Providence Medical Center until he was medically retired in 2000. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 56, American Legion Post 23, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 55, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7.

He married Yi Chung Cha on March 1, 1967, at the Wonang wedding hall in Munsan-Ri, South Korea. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Kenny T. McClain and Billy D. McClain, both of Leavenworth; a daughter, Nancy L. Bigger, Milton, Pa.; his mother, Bernice Dine, Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Claude McClain Jr. and Johnny H. McClain; five sisters, Bernice Bakke, Dollie Duran, Cathy Green, Sylvia Norman and Sherry McClain; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
