Coaches tab Pistora for all-state volleyball
Ali Pistora has been named one of the top volleyball players in the state.
The Kansas Volleyball Association announced its all-state teams Dec. 29.
Pistora, a 6-0 junior at Tonganoxie, was named second-team all-Class 4A. The setter/middle blocker helped the Chieftains to another substate runner-up finish in the fall as THS went 16-18. Last season, Pistora was part of a Chieftain team that posted the best record in recent school history at 30-8 in 2004.
Fellow Kaw Valley League member Santa Fe Trail also had representation on this year's 4A squad.
Brooke Pryor, a 5-10 middle blocker from SFT, was named to the first team, while Emily Forbes, 5-9 sophomore outside hitter, earned second-team recognition with Pistora.
Santa Fe Trail's Tracy Dunnaway also was named coach of the year. She led the Chargers to a state title last November and a 32-10 overall record. Hayden's Corrine Stringer was named player of the year in 4A.
The KVL's other all-state selection was Lansing's Casey Welch, a 5-10 senior outside hitter in 5A. She was named honorable mention.
As for Delaware Valley League representatives, Jefferson County North had two players named to the 2A all-state squad.
Jessica Sechepine, a 5-10 senior outside hitter for JCN, was a first-team selection, while JCN's Kate Weishaar, a 5-2 senior setter, was honorable mention.
