Two women interested in school board seat
A Tonganoxie school board seat that has been vacant since the Rev. Rick Lamb moved to Texas in May, soon will be filled.
Board members are scheduled to interview candidates at a special Jan. 16 board meeting.
Paula Gish and Diane Truesdell, both of whom live in Tonganoxie, in the district that Lamb represented, have applied to fill the position. Last week's Mirror included a glimpse at Gish's views.
"I decided to run because Pastor Rick's seat has been vacant for so long," Truesdell said. "I just feel like this is an important time and with so many things happening with the schools and the new school construction that we should have a full board."
Truesdell and her husband, Jim, have lived in Tonganoxie for five years. Jim, who is a member of the Tonganoxie City Council, works as a structural engineer for HNTB in Kansas City, Mo.
The Truesdells have three children attending Tonganoxie schools. And Diane has always been interested in the school system.
"I volunteer quite a bit at the grade school," Truesdell said. "I'm interested in just doing the best we can for our students."
Anyone who is interested in applying to fill the position may contact the district office at (913) 845-2153. Applications will be accepted through Jan. 16.
