Chieftain girls throttle Immaculata

By Shawn Linenberger - | Jan 11, 2006

Tonganoxie took to its home court for just the second time this season Tuesday and found the venue to be comfy once again.

The Chieftain girls basketball team led 37-20 against Immaculata at the half and didn’t look back as THS won, 62-27. THS improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Kaw Valley League. Immaculata fell to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the KVL.

THS coach Randy Kraft said his team looked better in the second half.

“I don’t care who we’re playing, I want to do things right,” Kraft said. “We did a much better job defensively in the second half.

“We started off the game pretty intense. In the second quarter the focus wasn’t quite there.”

Ali Pistora was Tonganoxie’s top scorer with 15, while Elizabeth Baska chipped in 10. Overall, the Chieftains had nine players score against the Raiders.

Tonganoxie will be at home again Friday when Basehor-Linwood comes to town.

Boys drop heartbreaker to Immaculata
Jordan Herron’s three-pointer pulled Tonganoxie to within one with 0.5 of a second left Tuesday against Immaculata in Leavenworth, but the Chieftains couldn’t steal Immaculata’s ensuing in-bounds pass and THS fell, 56-55.
Herron led the Chieftains in scoring with 15, while Jeff Hughes chipped in 10.
The loss moved THS to 0-8 on the season.
