THS drops Mill Valley, still undefeated

By Shawn Linenberger - | Jan 11, 2006

A pesky Mill Valley team reluctantly went down in defeat Friday at Tonganoxie.

The Jaguars barrage of three-pointers — six in the second half — kept Mill Valley within striking distance of undefeated Tonganoxie.

The Chieftains, though, matched Mill Valley’s perimeter shooting with solid ball movement that led to plenty of two-point baskets. Tonganoxie outlasted Mill Valley, 61-45, and remained perfect — 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Kaw Valley League.

Tonganoxie had a comfortable 27-15 lead at the intermission, but Mill Valley held with THS in the second half.

“We had some mental lapses, but I thought we played well,” THS coach Randy Kraft said.

Tonganoxie improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Kaw Valley League with the victory.

Ali Pistora was Tonganoxie’s top scorer with 17, while Rachel Bogard and Elizabeth Baska each had 10 points.

Tonganoxie had another victory last week with a 60-43 win Jan. 3 at Lansing. The Chieftains handed the Lions their first league setback of the year as LHS fell to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Kaw Valley League.

THS played Tuesday against Immaculata at home and will be home again Friday against Basehor-Linwood before starting the Tonganoxie Invitational on Monday.

With its undefeated record, Tonganoxie currently leads the Kaw Valley League standings.
