Service for Ellen “Bea” Beatrice Black, 85, Tonganoxie, were Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Tonganoxie Christian Church. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Black died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at her home. She was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Tonganoxie, the daughter of John Benjamin and Mary (Voyles) Vollintine.

She was a member of Tonganoxie Christian Church, and was its first secretary. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1938 and attended Lawrence Business and Burroughs School in Kansas City, Mo.

She worked for Federal Crop Insurance, Southwestern Bell and Hercules Power. She retired from Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Cooperative.

She married Benjamin F. Bateson on Dec. 20, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Dec. 10, 1970. She married William A. Black on April 2, 1983, in Tonganoxie. He died Dec. 3, 2005.

Survivors include two sons, John Bateson, Tonganoxie, and Steve Bateson, Basehor; two daughters, Delores Edmonds, Tonganoxie, and Carolyn Rose, Council Grove; two stepsons, John E. Black, Saranac, Minn., and Donald Black, McLouth; a stepdaughter, Pamela Allen, Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Marshall Smith Vollintine; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
