County voters invited to give electronic machines a whirl

Leavenworth County voters are invited to test the county's new electronic voting machines from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 20 at Tonganoxie Christian Church's Family Life Center.

The church is on Washington Street, one block east of U.S. Highway 24-40 Highway. Enter from the east parking lot.

Voters are welcome anytime during the two-hour period.

In other election-related news, advance voting in person in the county clerk's office begins today. And Monday is he final day to register to vote or to change your party affiliation before the Aug. 1 primary election.

Here are other dates to remember:

  • July 28: Deadline for voters to apply for advance voting ballots to be mailed.
  • July 31: Noon, advance voting in clerk's office ends.
  • Aug. 1: Primary election. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 2: Voter registration books reopen.
  • Nov. 7: General election. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
