Wilk joins First State board of directors
State Rep. Kenny Wilk, R-Lansing, has accepted a position on the First State Bank and Trust's board of directors.
"I have personally known Kenny since his early days as a 4-H member and have had the privilege of watching him develop into a successful businessman as well as excel as a public servant," said Bill New, the board's chairman. "Kenny will bring fresh business acumen to our bank, along with a creative and futuristic insight into the world around us.
"I am looking forward to working with Kenny and know that he, in turn, looks forward to serving our customers."
Wilk, who was born and raised in Leavenworth County, lives in Lansing with his wife, Darlene, and their son, William, 7. He attended Rockhurst College and Ottawa University of Kansas City.
In 1992, Wilk was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives, where he continues to represent the 42nd District in Leavenworth County.
Wilk, who is running unopposed for re-election, has served on several standing committees, including education, federal and state affairs, judiciary, appropriations, taxation, local government, transportation, financial institutions, and travel and tourism. He is past chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, the Kansas 2000 Select Committee, Legislative Post Audit, the Legislative Budget Committee and the House Economic Develop-ment Committee. He chairs the House Taxation Committee.
For the past 28 years, Wilk has been employed by Hallmark Cards Inc. Wilk currently is a commercial sales executive for Hallmark.
Wilk is a member of the board of directors for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp. and the National Institute for Strategic Technology Acquisition and Commercialization. He is a past board member of the Metropolitan Mental Health Association of the Heartland, the Kansas State Historical Society and Kansas Inc.
He recently was recognized as the 2005 National Legislator of the Year by the National BIO for his contributions toward the passage of the Kansas Economic Growth Act.
First State, which is based in Tonganoxie, is an independent bank with six locations in northeast Kansas, including Basehor, as well as two locations in the Wichita area.
