Obituary: Robert Needham

Services for Robert E. “Bob” Needham, 79, Leavenworth, were Saturday, March 4, 2006, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Leavenworth. Burial was in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.

Mr. Needham died Feb. 28, 2006, at Specialty Select Hospital, Overland Park. He was born July 20, 1926, in Tonganoxie, the son of Thekla E. (Farrell) and Fred L. Needham.

He graduated from high school in 1944 and married Patricia L. Edmonds on Sept. 23, 1955.

Mr. Needham served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II and received the combat infantry badge, the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal, Philippine liberation ribbon with bronze star, good conduct medal, World War II victory medal and the Army of occupation medal.

He retired from the city of Leavenworth as deputy director of public works after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He was a registered land surveyor in Kansas and a member of the American Public Works Association, Elks, Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Tonganoxie Post. He had volunteered at Leavenworth Assistance Center and was a supporter of the Tonganoxie Museum.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Jeffrey R. Needham, Olathe, and Daniel R. Needham, Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother, Harold V. Needham, Osage Beach, Mo.
