Girls earn all-league accolades

By Shawn Linenberger - | Mar 15, 2006

Tonganoxie landed three players on this year’s All-Kaw Valley League girls basketball team.

Juniors Rachel Bogard and Ali Pistora and sophomore Elizabeth Baska earned first-team all-conference honors. Tonganoxie and Lansing had the most first-team selections with three each.

The Lions also had a player named honorable mention.

The three Chieftain players made up the core of this year’s THS squad that went 21-2 and was one win away from a second straight state berth.

Pistora, Bogard and Baska were Tonganoxie’s top three scorers — Pistora averaged nearly 14 points a game, while Bogard averaged 12 and Baska 10. Pistora also was the team’s top free-throw shooter. She shot nearly 82 percent on the year (81-for-99). Bogard, meanwhile, was top rebounder with 146 on the year, just more than six a game. Pistora also led the team in steals with 68. Baska dished out the most assists with 68.

The first team consists of 12 players, while honorable mention includes five players.

The Tonganoxie boys did not have any players selected to the all-league squad.
