McLouth baseball reaches new win record for season

By Shawn Linenberger - | May 10, 2006

No. 7 definitely was lucky for the McLouth High baseball team.

After losing its first game of a doubleheader to Lyndon last week, 12-6, the Bulldogs stormed back in game two for an 11-3 victory.

The victory pushed McLouth’s record to 7-5, marking the most victories in a single season for MHS.

In that second game, the Bulldogs had three home runs. Trevor Keling had one of those long balls as the junior had three hits and 4 RBI in the game.

Lance Lamborn picked up the victory as he pitched seven innings. He allowed six hits and walked seven batters, but he also struck out five.

Earlier last week, the Bulldogs faced a Pleasant Ridge squad that was ranked in the top five in the state. The Rams entered the game with one loss and finished the series with a sweep. Pleasant Ridge improved to 15-1 with the victories.

Pleasant Ridge escaped the first game with a 1-0 win and then won the second game 6-1.

Clay Mayer said that first game was the fastest game — that wasn’t cut short by a mercy rule — in which he’s been involved.

And, the first-year head coach said it was a game that the Bulldogs played well in.

“It isn’t anything to hold your head about,” Mayer said. “We just couldn’t get our bats rolling all night.”

McLouth played Maur Hill/Mount Academy on Monday in Atchison and will play Thursday, in the Bulldogs’ regular-season finale, at home against Valley Falls.

Coverage of those games, as well as next week’s regional action, can be found in the May 17 edition of The Mirror.
