Softball, baseball regional pairings announced

May 11, 2006

Tonganoxie will be the No. 1 seed in a Class 4A regional softball tournament Monday at 3-and-2 Sports Complex at 83rd Street and Kansas Highway 7.

The No. 1 Chieftains (17-3) will play No. 8 Bishop Ward (0-16) in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Last week, Tonganoxie swept Bishop Ward.

A win in the quarterfinals would put THS in the semifinals against the winner of the Sumner (7-13) vs. Bonner Springs (6-12) game at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

If Tonganoxie advances to the finals, they will play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Other first-round action includes No. 2 Eudora (15-5) vs. De Soto (4-16) and No. 3 Basehor-Linwood (12-6) vs. Piper (6-12).

The McLouth High softball squad drew a No. 3 seed in its Class 3A regional in Oskaloosa. The Bulldogs (10-4) will meet No. 6 Pleasant Ridge (6-9) at 6:30 p.m. Monday. If they win the first-round game, the Bulldogs will meet No. 2 Oskaloosa (15-3) in the semifinals at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. Oskaloosa earned a first-round bye, as did top-seeded Silver Lake (18-0), because the regional has just six teams. No. 4 Rossville (12-6) and No. 5 Atchison County (8-10) will play in the other first-round game.

The championship will be played at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Tonganoxie will take on Sumner at 2:15 p.m. Monday in the first round of 4A regional action at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. THS enters the tournament at 5-15, while Sumner is 12-4.

If the Chieftains win that game, they would face the winner of No. 3 De Soto (13-7) vs. No. 6 Atchison (7-11) at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. The championship will be played at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

No. 1 Bishop Ward (15-4) will face Basehor-Linwood (3-17) and No. 4 Bonner Springs (12-8) will take on No. 5 Piper (11-8) in other first-round games.

McLouth (7-7) is the No. 4 seed at the 3A regional in Leavenworth. MHS will play No. 5 Oskaloosa (7-9) at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Leavenworth Sports Field. The winner will face No. 1 Pleasant Ridge (17-1) in the second round at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

In the other first-round game, Shawnee-Maranatha Academy (8-6) will take on Atchison County (0-16). The winner will meet No. 2Maur Hill-Mount Academy (11-7).
