Masons invite community to party

By Lisa Scheller - | Oct 25, 2006

Members of Tonganoxie’s Masonic Lodge are gearing up to celebrate their chapter’s 125th birthday.

And they want the community to join them in the fun.

To commemorate the event, they’re inviting the community to a free turkey dinner.

The dinner will be from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 4, at Tonganoxie’s Masonic Lodge, 311 Delaware.

Though the dinner is free, the Masons ask those who attend to bring a can of food for the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop and Food Bank. And, the Masons ask those who plan to attend to make reservations by this Friday, so they’ll know how many guests to cook for.

Reservations may be made by calling Glenn Graves, (913) 369-9731, or Dave Kinzie, (913) 351-3636.

Graves said they’re hoping plenty of people will attend the dinner.

“It won’t be your mom’s Thanksgiving dinner, but it will be a good meal,” Graves said.

Graves also said the Masons have a couple of other projects they’re working on.

One is the annual Masonic essay contest, which is open to high school students.

Local prizes will total $100. The winning entry will be forwarded to the state, where the top award is a $4,000 scholarship.

A total of $12,000 in scholarships will be awarded at the state level.

The other ongoing project is the Mason’s communitywide breakfasts.

These are held at the lodge from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month.

The price for the biscuit and gravy and scrambled egg breakfast, with all the trimmings, is $4 for adults and $2 for children.

Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the breakfasts.
