Obituary: Wayne A. Turner
Services for Wayne Turner, 76, Tonganoxie, were Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. A private burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mr. Turner died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Tonganoxie, the son of Art and Edna (Campbell) Turner. He married Jean Nolen on July 26, 1952, in Clifton Heights, Pa. She survives, of the home.
He was a 20-year Navy veteran who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired in 1967 as a senior chief petty officer.
From 1967 to 1969 he was a business owner in Tonganoxie. He served as a Leavenworth County sheriff's deputy from 1969 to 1980 and as Leavenworth County's undersheriff from 1980 to 1990.
Other survivors include four sons, Wayne A. Turner Jr., Dickinson, Texas, Robert W. Turner, Scottsdale, Ariz., David C. Turner, Dallas, and Michael S. Turner, Shawnee; a daughter, Lisa A. Moorman, Douglas, Ga.; a brother, Verden (Bud) Turner, Oklahoma City; a sister, Joyce Copeland, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
