Editor's note: The Mirror's Poetry Corner is a new feature. If you have poetry you would like to share with our readers, please submit it to Caroline Trowbridge, editor and publisher. You may send it via e-mail to email@example.com; via fax to (913) 845-9451; or via mail to P.O. Bo 520, Tonganoxie 66086. And, of course, you are welcome to drop it by our office at 520 E. Fourth. Our inaugural poet is Mike Vestal, lifelong Tonganoxie resident, who works as dispatcher for the police department.
All I have to Give
You're the first thing I think of
Every morning when I rise.
You're the last thing I think of
Each night when I close my eyes.
You're in each thought I have
And every breath I take.
My feelings are growing stronger
With every move I make.
I want to prove I love you
But that's the hardest part.
So, I'm giving all I have to give
To you. I give my heart.
How Would Anyone Know
How would anyone know of the love I share with you?
The one that burns so steady and true.
Should I be silent, be still and never say a word,
And not let this beautiful message be heard.
Or instead, should I shout it out loud?
The love we share of which I'm so proud.
Any man would give all he's worth,
To have a love like this, while here on earth.
Should I let the world know how we feel?
So everyone will realize it is indeed real.
There are others my love, who feel as we do,
But, don't have the words to help them get through.
You and I still sit together every night,
Either our fingers entwined or you're holding me tight.
The kisses still mean very much,
Your hand your soft and sensual touch.
You see these things never go away
It doesn't matter if you turn old and gray. ...
Would people look at me when I have passed away?
And ask, how did he feel, I don't know, he never did say.
Well, I will not be silent until the end,
YOU are my love, and very best friend.
We have been together for an eternity,
And love still burns brightly for you and for me.
I Am Blessed
Life gives us many blessings
but there are only a few
that compare to the joy
I have in knowing you.
You're dependable and true
and always there for me.
Thank you for everything
you do so thoughtfully.
You are so dear to me
and very special too.
I truly am thankful
I found a friend in you.
Our Love is So Right
How can love as this be wrong, in any way,
When you love someone so very much?
Thinking only of you, throughout the day,
Longing to hold, and feel your tender touch.
Wanting to awake, every morning to say, "Good morning, I love you,"
Going to sleep every night, saying, "Good night, and I love you."
You're the most wonderful woman any man could ever find,
To me, sweetheart; you are one of a kind.
Our love is so right, you know that too,
You think of me, as much, as I think of you.
We have this very special love; no one can ever take away,
You know, I'll always love you, forever and a day.
For you, I would give up everything I own,
Darling, I don't want to spend my life alone.
To love, honor, respect and cherish you is all I want to do.
I will spend the rest of my life, loving only you.
I will never give up on you, without a fight,
Honey, how can this love be wrong, when our love is so right?
Our Love and Passion
When you love someone so deeply,
As the love I feel for you.
It is something very special,
A love so passionate and true. ...
You're not only my one true love,
But the very best friend I have.
We know each other so very well,
You know I love you, as you can tell.
We share many things in life together,
We have this love and passion for one another. ...
There is no greater love, on this earth
Than the love I have for you.
No one can ever love you as much as I do.
I'll do anything to make you happy,
That is all I strive to do.
There is not a love that will ever compare,
To the love and passion that we both share.
Perfect in My Eyes
All I ever wanted was to be a part of your heart,
For us to be together and never being apart.
No one else in the world can even compare,
You're perfect and so is the love we share.
We have so much more than I ever thought we would,
I love you more than I ever thought I could.
I promise to give you all I have to give,
I'll do anything for you as long as I live.
In your eyes I see our present, our future and past,
By the way you look at me, I know it will last.
I hope that one day you'll come to realize,
How perfect you are, when seen through my eyes.
