Youth keeps eye on basketball

Liz Turner, Girls State delegate representing McLouth American Legion Auxiliary Post 393, was guest speaker at the auxiliary’s September meeting. At Girls State last June, Liz learned how government works at local, state and federal levels. She campaigned for office, attended meetings and seminars featuring government officials, and she participated in many interesting events. It was a rewarding experience for her and she would like to share this experience with others who may be interested in attending in the future. This opportunity is available to all McLouth High School girls in their junior year.

The WHMS of Springdale Friends Church met at the home of Evelyn Schwinn Sept. 6. The meting opened with Evelyn Schwinn sharing “A Lesson in Humanity” and “Belief is All You Need.” Those attending sang “Rescue the Parishing,” “This is my Father’s World” and “Take the Name of Jesus with You.” The lesson was on selecting the fabric, written by missionary Brad Carpenter, followed by devotions and prayer. Roll call was “A fool-proof method you use to get rid of a clothing stain.” The new programs will be filled out when more members can be present. The Fall Tea will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 20. The guest program will be music. Final plans will be made at the next meeting, on Oct. 4 at Brenda Schwinn’s home. The meeting closed with singing of “Blest be the Tie.” Evelyn served refreshments to the ladies and children present.
McLouth runs over Wathena, 29-13
