Mill Valley takes season series from Tonganoxie soccer squad

By Shawn Linenberger - | Sep 20, 2006

Tonganoxie’s soccer rematch with Mill Valley turned out much like the first meeting, an 8-0 Mill Valley victory in the season opener.

This time, on the Jaguars’ home turf in Shawnee, Mill Valley claimed a 10-0 victory against the Chieftains.

Mill Valley led at the half, 6-0. The game actually ended with 47 seconds still left before the end of regulation because of the mercy rule — MVHS was leading by 10.

Mill Valley improved to 5-1-1, while Tonganoxie dropped to 0-8.

The Chieftains played Tuesday at Eudora and will return home Thursday for a game against Bonner Springs.

Piper 3, Tonganoxie 0

THS trailed just 1-0 at halftime Thursday at Piper, but the Pirates scored two more times in the second half for a 3-0 win.

“I would say that they are probably middle of the pack, kind of close to Lansing,” Lott said about Piper. “Lansing’s maybe a step or two above them.”

Turner 1, Tonganoxie 0

Tonganoxie had its best chance of getting into the win column Sept. 12 in a game at home against Kansas City-Turner.

The two teams were scoreless through the first half, but Turner scored midway through the second half and held on for the shutout victory.

“We were pretty even to them,” Lott said. “We had plenty of opportunities, but again we were having problems getting the ball in the net.”
